THE “FOR THE GLORY” ONLINE TOURNAMENT CIRCUIT
Following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and Governor Cuomo’s mandated shut-down of most non-essential businesses in the state of New York, Gill Misrahi took the lead in organizing an online backgammon tournament circuit for our club members. This tournament circuit, dubbed by our members as the “For the Glory” Online Tournament Circuit, was a weekly event that was played on the Backgammon Galaxy website. The first tournament was hosted on March 23, 2020, and weekly events followed thereafter until the end of May, 2021, with the resumption of our regular live backgammon tournament circuit in June, 2021.
The “For the Glory” online backgammon tournaments generally consisted of three brackets: a main bracket (7-point matches), a progressive consolation bracket (5-point matches), and a progressive last chance bracket (3-point matches). On occasion, we adopted a round robin format. Bill Lonergan assisted Gill by generating the weekly play brackets and acting as the record keeper for the “For the Glory” tournament circuit.
Following the completion of the original “For the Glory” Online Backgammon Tournament Circuit at the end of September, Gill Misrahi organized continuing monthly online tournaments. These tournament circuits continued through the end of May, 2021, and were played using the same tournament structure. Separate monthly point totals were maintained for each of these tournament circuits.
“FOR THE GLORY” POINTS & TOURNAMENT FORMAT
Points for each Monthly “For the Glory” Online Backgammon Tournament Circuit were awarded on a weekly basis as follows:
1 Point for each match win (any play bracket).
4 Bonus Points for the Main Bracket Winner.
2 Bonus Points for the Consolation Bracket Winner.
1 Bonus Point for the Last Chance Bracket Winner.
